Food ordering and delivery company Waitr is buying Delivery Dudes, a Florida based-food delivery company. The sale is valued at $23 million.

Founded in 2009, Delivery Dudes provides food delivery mostly in the South Florida market. It operates in 50 cities and targets small and medium-sized cities. Private equity firm Andreessen Horowitz named it one of the top marketplace app. companies in the country.

“Delivery Dudes affords us the opportunity to further expand our footprint in the Florida delivery marketplace,” Waitr CEO Carl Grimstad said. “The Dudes have created a strong brand presence in South Florida, and we are excited to have them join our team. Their well-trained and friendly staff, combined with reliable drivers, deliver fresh food from top local restaurants — a perfect fit for Waitr.”

Waitr operates in 700 cities and focuses on underserved areas. It is listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. The company was acquired by Lancadia holdings in 2018 and merged with Bite Squad later that year. The sale of Delivery Dudes comes at a time of major consolidation within the food delivery business. Uber purchased Posmates last year and other mergers have been discussed among the national delivery companies.

“We’ve been working hard for the last decade and are excited to join Waitr, a company that shares our entrepreneurial spirit and believes in us,” Delivery Dudes CEO Jayson Koss said. “With Waitr’s resources, we look forward to growing the South Florida market and working to help Waitr expand their market presence. We believe 2021 will be an exciting year.”
